Historical background of the school

 The history of building today’s Professional School of Economics and Management “Elias Canetti” is relatively consistent. The main conception of the school was to give knowledge and it still maintains its purpose. After some vicissitudes a new training base was opened on 22nd “Borissova” Street in 1932-a school for external students, called “Saint Mary”. It was built for the educational needs of the French college for girls, the congregation Notre Dame de Sion as part of the college facilities. The building of today’s Engish High School “Geo Milev” in the Park of Youth is also part of this training base. As regards the architecture, the building has a T-shaped symmetrical façade. In view of the time when it was realized, it must trend for the increasing simplicity of decorative ornaments without creating an image of boredom and lack of expressiveness. The exterior decoration of the building consists of red brick combined with square stone columns, which provide the framework for the construction of the main entrance with a pediment. The building consists of three floors above ground and a semi-ground floor. When the congregation of Notre Dame de Sion ceases to exist, the Commerce High School “moves in”  the building on 22nd  “Borisova” Street, which is now PGIU - “Elias Canetti”.

The School Today

  Today, 750 students in 29 classes are taught at this school. All 50 teachers are university graduates, 20 of them have supplementary professional qualification levels – from 1 to 5.
A school partner in the classroom and extracurricular activities is the School Board of Trustees, which has been functioning since 2000. Today, the school offers its students a combination of quality general schooling, economic theory and practice, computer technologies and foreign languages.
The school has a library whoch facilities school process and extracurricular with its rich book of 10 000 volumes.

The School Tomorrow

This complex education prepares students for the finale and offers them many possibilities:

• to continue their education in higher school either in Bulgaria or overseas
• to be includedin the financial and accounting teams of economic practice
• to start their own bisness on the basis of the specialities they have studied

The overall activities of Secondary School of Economics and Management "Elias Canetti", Ruse at present and for the future are and will be subject to its mission to give a real chance to young people to win the competition on the labour market by teaching in conformity with European standards.
